Nysa Family Dentistry

Today, technology affects nearly every area of our lives. Dentistry is one area in particular that has benefitted from updated technology.

We understand that seeking dental care is a challenge for many people, so we invest in state-of-the-art technology because it makes your visits comfortable, efficient, and productive. Many procedures that cause patients stress, like root canals, can now be done quickly and comfortably by using updated technology.

Please take a moment to browse through the great technology we offer and don't hesitate to call us if you have questions!

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are the most important diagnostic tool we have. But many patients are understandably concerned about radiation exposure. At Nysa Dental, you will be pleased to know that we use only state-of-the-art digital x-rays that expose you to about 95% less radiation than traditional x-rays.

Since dental problems often begin inside the teeth or beneath the gums where we can't see them, digital x-rays are invaluable. The highly-detailed images produced with digital x-rays clearly show us what's happening inside your teeth. Since the images are digital, we can share them with you on your chairside monitor so you can see exactly what we see. Understanding why treatment is necessary is much easier when you are an active participant in the decision-making process!

Taking digital x-rays is more comfortable because we don't use a bulky film that you need to clutch between your teeth. Instead, we use flat digital sensors with rounded edges that fit comfortably in your mouth. Your x-rays are stored securely on our in-house system, so they are readily available for reference or to quickly send to specialists and insurance companies. And since digital x-rays don't require any processing chemicals, there is no hazardous waste to dispose of!

Panoramic X-Rays

As part of planning your treatment, we use digital panoramic x-rays that produce a single highly detailed, two-dimensional image of your teeth, upper and lower jaws, and surrounding structures and tissues. Panoramic x-rays also minimize your radiation exposure; some estimates say that these state-of-the-art images reduce your exposure by as much as 80%!

Taking a panoramic x-ray is easy. We do not need to use film or sensors in your mouth because panoramic x-rays are extraoral (outside the mouth). This technology is particularly useful for young children or adults who cannot tolerate x-rays taken inside the mouth.

Intraoral Cameras

At Nysa Family Dental, we believe an educated patient is a healthier patient. When you understand the benefits of achieving optimal oral health, it's easy for you to feel confident about the treatment decisions you make.

We believe in investing in technology that makes you an active part of the treatment planning process. Intraoral cameras are a perfect example of this because they allow us to show you, in real time, the condition of your teeth and point out problem areas. An intraoral camera is about the size of a pen, and during your examination, your doctor directs it over your teeth. At the same time, the resulting image is displayed on your chairside monitor so we can view it together.

Seeing for yourself what the problem is and why you need treatment allows you to make confident decisions that put you in control of your dental care.

Nitrous Oxide

Dental anxiety is a common problem that leads to missed appointments and ultimately poor oral health. We understand the challenge that some people face, so we do everything we can to put you at ease so you can relax and get the critical care you need.

We are pleased to offer nitrous oxide for our patients who need a little help relaxing or just want to drift off during their procedure. We use a safe mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen that you inhale through a small nasal mask. Within moments, you will relax and feel mildly euphoric and a little drowsy. Most patients who choose nitrous oxide report that they felt detached from their surroundings and afterwards didn't remember much about what took place during their appointment.

Nitrous oxide is mild and safe enough to use on children and leaves no lingering drowsiness. As soon as we stop the flow of gas, the effects dissipate quickly, and you will be able to resume your usual daily activities.

Rotary Endodontics

It's common for patients to experience anxiety about root canal treatment. At Nysa Family Dental, we want to provide you with a comfortable and stress-free experience, and rotary endodontics help us do that.

State-of-the-art rotary endodontics mean less time in the dental chair for you because our doctors are able to perform gentle root canal treatment efficiently and comfortably. Equally important, with rotary endodontic instruments, it is also possible to clean the root canals more thoroughly, resulting in better long-term outcomes.

Electric Handpieces

One of the many ways we make your appointments more comfortable, efficient, and productive is with electric handpieces. Patients with dental anxiety often express that one of the things they dislike about dental visits is the sound of the equipment. At Nysa Family Dental, we use electric handpieces, which are much quieter and produce less vibration.

Electric handpieces also have lights for greater accuracy, which results in a better overall patient experience. Also, electric handpieces provide a level of precision that’s not possible with the air-driven tools used in the past.

This technology helps our doctors and hygienists remove decay and plaque quickly and efficiently, cutting down on the time it takes to complete your dental procedure or cleaning appointment.

Digital Records

One of our goals is to streamline our processes to make your dental visits as efficient as possible, and digital record-keeping is one way we achieve this. At Nysa Family Dental, we store all your patient information, history, and charts digitally. Digital records streamline your visits because you don't need to fill out endless forms, and all your information is readily available in one location.

This paperless record-keeping system is better for the environment, and it allows easy access to the information we need to help us make the most appropriate decisions about your dental treatment. Digital records eliminate a lot of paperwork, so they are better for the environment. And digital records allow us to easily share your file with specialists or your insurance company when needed.

Televisions in Rooms

Most people don't look forward to dental visits and would rather be almost anywhere else than sitting in a dental chair! We understand, but your oral health is a priority, so we provide you with comfortable distractions like headphones with music and TVs in our treatment rooms. During your appointment, you can sit back and relax in our massage chair with a warm blanket and pillow while you drift away to your favorite TV show, movie, or music.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

Cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) is a technology used to measure the quantity and quality of bone for specific dental procedures. CBCT is a valuable addition to our practice because we can use it to place dental implants and plan root canals with a high degree of accuracy, which produces the best possible outcomes. We can use CBCT to scan just a couple of teeth or your entire mouth.

CBCT shows us different angles and magnifications, allowing our doctors to see tiny cavities and identify potential orthodontic problems. Using CBCT, we can look at your teeth, bones, nerves, airways, and tissues so we can develop a highly accurate treatment plan.
