When should I first bring my child to the dentist?
Many parents are surprised to hear that the American Dental Association recommends children have their first dental visit when their first tooth erupts, but no later than age one. At Nysa Family Dentistry, we encourage you to bring your child in starting at about six months. This may seem early, but there are a couple of reasons why we make this recommendation.
First, it allows your child to get used to a new environment and unfamiliar faces slowly. Making these visits calm and stress-free creates happy experiences for your child now and establishes a positive attitude that will last into adulthood.
We won’t do an actual exam yet, but we will take a quick look in your child’s mouth to see if there are any problems we need to address. Since we don’t plan any dental work, this is also a perfect time to answer questions about your baby’s oral health. Dr. Amara will provide you with helpful tips and discuss concerns like oral hygiene, bottle-feeding, and thumb sucking.
Your child’s oral health is precious, and we want to provide all the support you need to ensure their healthy little smile stays that way. If it is time to schedule your child’s first visit, please call our Frisco, TX dental office, and we will be happy to arrange an appointment at your convenience.
